My Life Tour Around the Philippines
I was born in Iligan City. When I was not yet 1 year old, my parents transferred to Lugait, Misamis. Before I turned 3, we went back (my mother is from Negros) to the Negros Island and lived at Dauis as my mother took up a teaching job there. The following year, we went back to Mindanao and lived in the infamous Zamboanga City where our kid sister was born. Because of the war raging there, we experienced getting caught between cross-fires as rebel groups fought the military. Evacuation was the only option. So we went and lived in Dumaguete City. The following year (1990), my mother’s brother took me and my brother to Tanay, Rizal. We lived there for 3 years. Let’s just say that I have been to Manila, Quezon City, Rizal and generally NCR on my 3 years of stay there. I have been to Pagsanjan and to some really great falls around Rizal and nearby provinces. In 1993, we were brought back to Dumaguete and have lived here since. It does not stop there, though. I joined a Pastor’s Kids group where we tour around the Negros Island every month to visit churches and sing for the Sunday service. Because of that group, I was able to go to Bohol, Cagayan de Oro City, Bukidnon including the pineapple plantation there for del Monte (or was it DOLE – not sure as I was too young to remember), the little Baguio in Manolo Fortich, and we climbed the Musuan Peak. Because my father is from Cebu, every year without fail we go to Cebu City and Carcar (now a city, too). Also, me and my cousins love to travel and we went to Baguio City, Laguna – including the magical Enchanted Kingdom, Las Pinas (where a cousin used to live), Antipolo (where another cousin lived), Quezon City (where an aunt lived), and even Tondo (where the aunt who lived in QC had some ministerial job). I have also visited the nearby island of Siquijor. Also, because my father’s sister lives in southern Cebu, we always go to Malabuyoc and to nearby towns such as Badian. Actually, in 2002, I was able to go down to the mines that you can see from Mines View Park as part of an immersion program at our church’s youth stewards. We stayed there for a week. We even had some gold encrusted rocks to remind us of our visit there. When I graduated from college, I had to take the board exam for Chemistry but my birth certificate had no registry number. So me and my cousin went to Iligan City to get a copy then we had some side trips to nearby towns. We even passed through Ozamiz (is that the correct spelling?) then down to Dipolog where we took the boat to Dumaguete. I went back to Manila to take the board exam. My cousins and I toured around NCR and nearby provinces, too. There was also once when I also went with my cousins to Masbate (where their dad is from). We went to Uson and Masbate, Masbate. After the board exam, I took a job at a cement plant in San Fernando, Cebu – I lived there for 2 years. Then now, I am back to Dumaguete. For our honeymoon, me and my husband also took a tour around the island. We are also planning to go to Dakak, Boracay, and Banaue but couldn’t find the time now.
